the Rent Guidelines Board is voting at the end of June on possible rent increases for rent-stabilized tenants. However, it is also possible to get a rent freeze for 1-year leases for the 2 nd year in a row. At the preliminary vote last week, the RGB agreed to discuss/vote on a 0%-2% rent increase for 1- year leases and a .5%-3.5% rent increase for 2-year leases.
Now, is our chance as tenants to voice our demands for both a rent freeze and rent reduction (rollback) from the Rent Guidelines Boards by attending and testifying at the upcoming hearings.
In preparation for these hearings, MCH is helping to plan two housing forums in Manhattan to both explain the importance of the RGB and to help people prepare their testimonies for the hearings. The housing forums are both happening next week.
