Lawmakers are conferring to bring the 421A tax exemption for developers, now known as the Trump Tax Break, back. This would mean that for the next 45 years, luxury property developers would be exempt from paying property taxes. This would sum to about $86,000 a year that taxpayers transfer to private developers to subsidize affordable housing units. With a $3 billion city budget deficit by 2019, we cannot allow private developers a tax break to create primarily market-rate housing.
